Questions patients ask
Which contact lenses work best for astigmatism?
It depends on the degree of astigmatism. Both soft and rigid lenses are available, designed specifically for the corneal curvature astigmatism creates. Unlike standard spherical contacts, these lenses are built not to rotate when you blink or look around.
Do you fit rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses?
Yes. Our technicians handle both fitting and maintenance of RGP lenses, which offer increased sharpness and clarity. They're often recommended for patients with moderate to high astigmatism, patients with allergies, or anyone prone to forming protein deposits on their contacts.
Are there bifocal contact lenses?
Yes, and this is one of the fastest-moving areas in contact lenses. Daily, two-week, monthly, and quarterly soft lenses are all available now, designed to give you both distance and near vision in a single lens. Monovision is another option — one eye corrected for distance, the other for near.
Can I get colored contacts?
Yes. Colored contacts fall into two broad categories: enhancers and opaques. Enhancers work best on light-colored eyes; opaques work best on hazel or brown eyes. The color range in both has expanded enormously. If you already wear contacts, Dina, our contact lens fitter, will advise you on the best option.
What if the first pair doesn't feel right?
Getting the right fit sometimes takes two or three attempts. That's normal — every pair of eyes is different, and some are more sensitive than others. Don't be discouraged. Millions of people wear contact lenses comfortably; with patience and by following our technicians' instructions, you will too.
